HOW MAUI FISHED UP THE NORTH ISLAND
Long long ago when the world was plain there was nothing but a long great green and blue land and the occasional tribe.
Pretty plain isn’t it?.
One of these tribes was Kahungunu, this tribe was feared for it’s reputation to kill. They were so feared that when they launched their Waka into the great oceans of Tangaroa everyone fled.
But one day when they were heading home Maui dropped his patu and it sunk deep, deep into the ocean, Maui jumped overboard to get it.
The others threw down their hook and it hooked up Maui so he wouldn't drown, but just as Maui found his patu and was about to return to the surface, he saw a big fish, he hooked it and tugged.
His brothers then pulled it up and fished up new land. That is how the North Island came about. The South Island however is a whole other legend.
Maui then went back to his whanau and offered new land, they accepted his offer and came to their new land.
Moral: take chances

APOLLO GREEK MYTH
WALT Summarise
A summary is a shortened version of a text that contains all the main points.
Summarising is an important skill that helps us when we are researching, gathering and presenting information.
Finding key words and
phrases helps us to
summarise the text.

My summary is that cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world and that their bodies have made adaptations to help them to go fast.
Student checklist for summarising
- I highlighted key words and phrases.
- I found or created a topic sentence.
- I used a dictionary or asked someone to find the meanings of words.
- My summary isn’t just a list of facts – the sentences are linked together to create a smaller version of the original text.
- My summary is written in my own words – I haven’t copied out sentences or chunks from the original text.

Cave of no return
psst Matthew should we go and explore camp half blood tonight” I asked him “do you think that's a good idea” he said “sure it is” I replied “OK”.
So that night we snack off to explore camp. It was so dark we couldn't see the track then I heard a bone cracking smack. I looked at Matthew but he wasn't there then I heard a scream for help. I think I broke my leg. I found a really awesome cave come and have a look OK I’m coming down but suddenly I hear a rustle in the leafs I turn around but it was only a weta. That was lucky it was only a weta what was it nothing well I’m coming down
OK woo lets go explore the cave OK look there’s the exit wait where are you Matthew help I've been cated I ran to see where he was but he was gone then I fell down a steep cliff
then I heard the rustling sound again but this time it was a the same wetter from before it seemed to be following me wherever I went something was telling me that he was trying to tell me something I sat down and listened it was telling me to beware then something red grabbed it and ate it I was so scared but it was only a tree frog.
It was about 12:00pm I decided to set up a camp and look for Matthew in the morning I set up camp at camp. What did the weta mean by beware but a rustling sound in the leafs cut my thoughts short. this time a big shape came up by the shelter. I hid under the leafs( because I didn't have a covers) then I looked out of the shelter but this time it was a stag it seemed to be saying of the then a hunter shot it and picked it up and walked of. I wondered what the stag and the weta were talking about then a big shadow rose up again and this time it was the boggy man it caught me and took me back to his lair and there I saw Matthew that morning I cut the ropes and we escaped. We ran and ran back to camp and owned up to the teachers and from that day on we would never go tramping alone the boggy man still roams the camp half blood to this day so beware.

Cartouche Art
Room 20 has been studying Egypt and one of our tasks was to make our names out of hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics are the Egyptian alphabet. A cartouche isa name plate for a coffin. Egyptian's only spell words the way it sounds not the way it is really spelt. This awesome idea came from http://art-educ4kids.weebly.com/egyptian-art.html

Its not easy being a cricket ball
Its not easy being a cricket ball
being cracked across the head by a long piece of wood. Or thrown at the wickets and being smacked over the fence waiting for someone to rescue me. And worst case scenario landing in an island of dog poo yuck, and putting up with players bad breath as they polish me. Worst of all feeling that
disgusting sweat of the players hands as they hold me. Just as well I am a hard ball At least I can look up at the big
screen and say that is me up there. It makes me feel proud. In the winter I am thrown in the garage for one whole year because it is too cold for anyone to play with me. Its boring looking at the same things over and over again.
Whenever someone comes in to get something from the garage I hope that they will pick me up and play. But most of the time they just walk in and get their bike and go.
Now do you get it,
ITS NOT EASY BEING A CRICKET BALL!

saber tooth boar fish
Splash, the fisherman sees a fisherman's nightmare, the saber tooth tiger fish.
It has a long tail. It's color is as brown as brown grass on a summer day, in other word’s extremely hideous. Anyway I bet you're wondering how it got hooked up on the line. Well it all started on a hot summer day when I went to catch my family and I some dinner.I went out to sea. When I spotted a big family of fish on the radar I would drop my line. Suddenly I saw a huge fish on the radar so I quickly dropped my line.Just then I saw a shark so I left the line to see it and take a photo. Then the shark swam away, I wondered why, then I saw a sharp horn darting throw the water towards the boat.It jumped out of the water onto my boat. Ah I screamed (OK maybe not screamed more like yelled) anyway it was the saber tooth boar fish, it bit a hole in the engine, no I yelled not the engine. Then he bit a hole in the boat, it began to sink and luckily I had a life jacket on. I started to swim for the shore. It was following me. I've heard of this fish before, it was known to eat anything in it’s way. I swam for shore but it chased me on till I reached the shore, then it jumped up onto the sandy sand and that's how I caught the saber tooth boar fish. I am now a millionaire for catching the saber tooth boar fish. Other saber tooth boar fish are still lurking beneath the depths so beware.
